Raymond E. Feist
(submitted by Chris Montgomery)
SYNOPSIS
The highly acclaimed author of In Conquest Born turns her attention to
fantasy in her boldest and most provocative work to date. On a far-distant planet,
ancestors of the original colonists from Earth are caught in a desperate battle for
survival against the fae--a terrifying natural force that preys on the human mind.
REVIEWS
by Chris Montgomery
Enchanting storytelling, with a real
flair for nuance and a love for the characters. The magic system-- the fae-- is
fascinating as well as intruiging. But, more than anyhitng else, the complex characters
she interweaves throughout the plot. Damien Vryce and Gerald Tarrant (the Hunter) are both
extremely pstchological characters, with values and natures that feel *true*. If you loved
the Chronicles
of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever then you will enjoy this. Your willpower will
crumble as you try to avoid reading the other two books in the trilogy (When True Night
Falls /and/ Crown of Shadows.) They continue to explore the unutterably fascinating
relationship between Damien and Gerald. Thank me later.
