ANTIGONE
Karen Anne Callery

At times it seems as if our lives are a mirror
to the age old curse that strikes down the dreamer,
the innocent visionary
who wonders sightlessly,
searching for all eternity
for some prosperity.

Perhaps an Aristotle tragedy
must be my life's conclusion?
For so often when the foe becomes the friend
it is only with the passing of the wind.
The sorrow is so clear
and yet we hold it dear,
The illusion of love and passion,
friendship and devotion
the naive conclusion
that somewhere out there
lies the key to harmony
within humanity.

I wonder and wait
for the waves of disoriented youth
to finally break free
and show me the truth
that all of life mirrors
Antigone.
