Memorial For Michael

As I look out into the night
I see a face peer back at me.
Laughing eyes and a smile,
Topped by a dark halo of hair.
Michael's face.

He gave so much in his life.
His love, his laughter,
His smile, his strength.
They were his gifts
To everyone he knew.
He touched us and made us
Better by his presence.

The darkness and the emptiness,
Left by his passing
From this world,
Is tempered by knowledge.
Knowledge that he made
Our lives better by
Having been a part, ever so small,
Of our lives.
Knowledge that now,
Our Michael serves a Higher Purpose
That we are not meant to understand.

His memorial,
Our love for him and
Our gratitude for
Having him, for even that brief moment,
A part of our lives.
