ruminations

     Autumn happens to be my favorite season of the year - to me there's nothing more invigorating than the crispness in the early morning air, the fresh smells of a cool autumn rain, the warm aroma of pumpkin pies in the oven ...
  ... to me, the falling leaves of autumn serve as a reminder that everything I do, all that I strive to accomplish in life, reaches its own harvest season. There's a time to sow, and a time to reap: sometimes we get so caught up in "sowing" -- caught up in the trivial minutiae of everyday life -- that we forget to take a step back, breathe deeply, and absorb the benefits of all the "work" we do; appreciate that which we've created and are able to accomplish in the time that we are allotted on earth.
     This is Life - there is nothing more precious.

    Harvest has arrived - join me in celebrating the Autumn season by performing the following Harvest "ritual" alone or with a few close friends:

* find yourself one of the richly-scented pumpkin candles created by the wonderful people at the Yankee Candle Company in South Deerfield Massachusetts. I have no affiliation with the place, but I must tell you their candles have the mystical power to transport you to Otherworlds!

* After the sun passes beyond the edge of the world, place the candle in your "sacred space" or on a coffee table or other central location in the room and light it;

* If there is a particular song or collection of music that puts you in an "autumn" mood, turn it on. I personally enjoy listening to Narada's "Acoustic Sampler 5" or Jon Mark's "A Sunday in Autumn" on White Cloud Records - these always seem to enhance the feeling of Fall for me;

* Turn off the lamps in your home and place yourself in a comfortable position: lay on the couch, relax in a chair, or - if you're so inclined - sit in a meditative position;

* clear all of the extraneous thoughts from your mind by breathing slowly, deeply, and repeating the following phrase: I welcome the Harvest and all that it brings. While this season sings, I will enjoy the fruits of my labor and seek always to share with others the warmth and nourishment of friendship and love.

* Repeat these words slowly and deliberately until you have reached an intense state of Calm. End the meditation with a renewed passion to share this season with those close to you!

It always enhances the joy when you can invite someone over to share a simple meal, perhaps soup and bread and a light dessert, some tea or other warm drink, and rich conversation. Every season is a blessing ... the sensations they bring border on the miraculous ... take some time to REALLY EXPERIENCE the Harvest this year - and then share your experience with us!
