COMFORT & STAGNATION

People have become too comfortable in their lives. I'VE become too comfortable. There's an interesting concept I've been mulling over lately - the idea is that when humans become too content with their current situations, there's less of a desire to change that situation.

Makes sense. Why change something if it's working for you at that time?

The problem is that when we become too comfortable, we're in danger of losing our "edge" in life ... we stagnate, get mentally lazy, and stop evolving ... we become a swarm of little "Jabba the Hutts" who want nothing more than what we currently have. If we don't constantly challenge ourselves, we can never become that which we dream. In business, in life, it's all the same: be comfortable, stagnate, and die worthless to anyone but ourselves.

Wow. That bites.

In Napoleon Hill's classic "THINK AND GROW RICH", I came upon what may be the answer to this dilemma.

"A long while ago, a great warrior faced a situation which made it necessary for him to make a decision which insured his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his armies against a powerful foe, whose men outnumbered his own.

He loaded his soldiers into boats, sailed to the enemy's country, unloaded soldiers and equipment, then gave the order to burn the ships that had carried them.

Addressing his men before the first battle, he said 'You see the boats going up in smoke. That means that we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win! We now have no choice - WE WIN - OR WE PERISH!'

They won."

THIS is exactly what needs to happen for us to get off our lazy asses and DO SOMETHING in life! It hit me like a brick after reading that passage. In an area we want to improve in life, we need to "burn our boats" so that there is literally nothing to fall back on - imagine the DESIRE we'd have to achieve what we want - it's the "fight or flight" syndrome, only WE CONTROL when we use it and how it works!

The only problem:
not many of us are willing to intentionally disrupt the comfort of where we are - that would be like a surgeon operating on himself even though he knew he was healthy RIGHT NOW. That would be like... preventive maintenance (god forbid).

WHY SHOULD I TRY TO FIX THE FUTURE WHEN I'M DOING O.K. RIGHT NOW? WHY CAN'T THINGS JUST BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME?

Because I want to succeed - I want to learn and get better at what I do EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. I'm tired of living like the "majority", a bunch of scared spineless life forms who'd rather die than change, settling for MEDIOCRE when the BEST is offering itself to them every day.

I'm thinking of ways I can break free, take the initiative and CREATE that kind of BURNING DESIRE in my life right now.
Quitting the J.O.B. would FORCE me to find a way to increase the traffic in my home business ... sink or swim, fly or die ...

what's it gonna be?
